Arm parties and mixed metals
Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 10:49AM Costume jewelry is as popular as ever these days. It compliments any outfit and comes at any price. It’s hard to justify buying a new outfit without purchasing at least one new piece of jewelry to go along with it. With so many options: gold, silver, rose gold… big, small… statement or complimentary, it’s becoming harder to avoid becoming a jewelry addict. Well ladies, this article is here to help guide (and feed!) your jewelry obsession.
Necklaces have a way of being the center piece of your outfit or the finishing touches on an outfit that speaks for itself. Watching your lengths with necklaces will help lead you in the right direction. An open cardigan with a basic tank underneath deserves a punch of colour with a longer necklace. A good rule of thumb is to watch the neckline of the shirt you’re wearing. If it’s rounded in any way, a shorter necklace that lays flat against you is very complimentary. A square, boat or strapless neckline deserves a longer piece to balance out the shapes.
Bracelets have made a big come back in the last few years. The key is to layer them, and lots of them! The term ‘arm party’ is well known in the fashion world for ladies who choose to wear bangles and bracelets of all different shapes and colours all the way up to their elbows. You can recreate this look without going overboard on a daily basis. I recommend starting with a staple, like a watch, and building from there. Chose a few simple bangles and then interchange colourful pieces depending on your outfits. Leather cuffs and embroidered bracelets are a very popular ad
dition to the arm party this season.
Another fashion myth has been broken recently. You no longer need to pick between a gold or silver lifestyle… you can do both, and more! Mixing metals is a popular trend among jewelry lovers. Lots of necklaces now will be a brass with gold details, or tri-tone, mixing gold, silver and rose gold. It’s fun to mix and match the tones of metals with different brights and pastels. A great way to try this look is with layering necklaces of different materials. Try three or four simple necklaces of different lengths and materials against a plain white dress, the look is rich, sophisticated and unique!
Jewelry can define your outfit or just be the added bonus. Be adventurous this summer and try a few of the top jewelry trends. It’s an excuse to buy a few more pieces of jewelry…. Like we need another!
